Tiger Safari in Ranthambore

Home to a growing population of tigers living within a fairly small area, Ranthambore National Park is a great place to spot these big cats. It was once the hunting ground of the Maharaja of Jaipur, but now it provides sanctuary for tigers and a host of other wildlife, making it the best place to see tigers in Rajasthan. At last count, in early 2018, there were 67 tigers living here, a number that was hugely up on the original 14–18 that were in Ranthambore when it became part of Project Tiger in 1973.

What comes to mind when you think of Ranthambore? Forests and tigers, right?
But Ranthambore is so much more. It is a very popular destination and attracts lots of tourists. Once, it was a private hunting place for the royal families of Jaipur. Now it is a national park, which has many forms of wildlife.

Ranthambore is a vast wilderness area located between the Aravallis and the Vindyas. It offers some of the best tiger sightings in the country. Other than the forest and wildlife, Ranthambore also consists of small rivers and lakes. And then there is the Ranthambore Fort. It is a very impressive structure, even now. The Surwal Lake is one of the biggest tourist attractions inside the park.

Although most people go to Ranthambore to visit tigers, that is not the only form of wildlife present there. There are also sloth bears, caracals, mongooses, jackals, hyenas, and leopards. Other animals include chital deer, sambhar deer, langur, nilgai, crocodiles, eagles, king vultures, and spotted deer. All of these animals live inside the park.
